JALANDHAR:  All candidates of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and senior leaders, who met here to “introspect” to identify the reasons of AAP’s defeat on majority of seats in Punjab assembly polls, today resolved to constitute State Working Committee of Punjabi leaders to run the affairs of Punjab in future.

Meeting which was chaired by senior leadership of the party including state convener Gurpreet Ghuggi, MP Bhagwant Mann and leader of opposition HS Phoolka ended with an “oral resolution” by the gathering with an appeal to Central leadership for immediate constituting of a State Working Committee, comprising purely Punjabi leaders, to run and revive the rookie party in the state.

Even it was also resolved that an Executive Committee of the state should be constituted, so that prompt, concrete and comprehensive decisions could be taken and implemented as and when these are needed, without looking towards the Central leadership for their “dictate”.

Resolution was moved by Chief Whip of AAP in Punjab Assembly Sukhpal Khaira and was passed by entire gathering by raising their both the hands, it is learnt.

About the reasons identified for the defeat of party, majority of the participants blamed that lack of faith in Punjabi leaders by “Delhi leadership”, failure to announce party’s CM Candidate and “Over-confidence” of the party leaders were squarely responsible for the AAP’s “under-performance” in the poll outcome.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently National Convener of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal also convened a meeting in New Delhi in which HS Phoolka was ‘declared” as Leader of Opposition in Punjab assembly and Bhulath MLA Sukhpal Khaira declared as Chief Whip.

When Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu stood to explain reasons for party’s defeat in Punjab, he was virtually stopped by Phoolka citing that these could be aired in next meeting.  Before Sandhu could be reacted on this, majority of the candidates present on the occasion objected to this and requested Sandhu to continue to raise his point of view.

HS Phoolka and Bhagwant Mann left the venue citing reasons of their personal engagements and later on entire gathering in the presence of State Convener Ghuggi passed the resolution “orally”.

Even some of the candidates held themselves responsible for bowing down under the pressure of Central leadership as they failed to raise their united voice at an appropriate time against some of the “wrong” decisions of “Delhi Darbar”.

During the meeting held at Delhi also, no democratic process was allegedly adopted as each elected MLA was called one be one to express his choice for the leader of opposition and it is learnt that majority of the elected MLA named Sukhpal Khaira for the key post of Leader of Opposition, but all these opinions were ignored by Kejriwal.

Some of the MLAs tried to express the “identified reasons” of defeat of the party, but Kejriwal was least bothered about it and preferred to pass the buck towards State Convener Gurpreet Ghuggi and instructed him to take a special meeting of Punjab candidates for the purpose soon.

Although, in today’s meeting National Leader of AAP, Sanjay Singh was expected to participate but he was deliberately not invited by Ghuggi, sources said.

When contacted by punjabtribune.com to confirm the happenings in the meeting, Kharar MLA Sandhu refused to comment and said “this is an internal affair of the party and I don’t want to make any comment on deliberations of the meeting”.
