Dr Darshan Barri an eminent artist and retired Welfare Officer of Vet Varsity passes away

Ludhiana: Dr. Darshan Singh Barri, retired as Welfare Officer of Guru Angad Dev  Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has passed away. He breathed his last at the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana on the night between Feb. 05 and 06.

Barri has shown very important achievements throughout his life. Darshan Barri did his PhD research on Punjabi Kissa Poetry. He also did his graduation in Music. He served as Welfare Officer at Veterinary University Ludhiana for about 10 years. He not only honed the skills of the students in cultural activities but also brought many honorable achievements for the university.

While a popular face in Punjabi films and theatre , he was also an international level Kabaddi commentator. He also worked in the theatre group of eminent theatre director Harpal Tiwana. He worked with Om Puri, Raj Babbar, Girija Shanker, Sardar Sohi and Gurdas Mann. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Punjabi Bhawan at Ludhiana. Under the patronage of Jagdev Singh Jassowal he remained involved in the organization of the Prof. Mohan Singh Mela .

He also contributed as an approved singer at Akashwani Jalandhar. He was highly acknowledged personality at the Veterinary University and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana where he did all his government service. The staff has felt his loss with great emotion. He has been serving Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat all his life. He was cremated on 06 February at his native village, Barri. His Antim Ardas will be held on 14 February 2021(Sunday) at Gurdwara Sahib in his village, Barri on Dhuri Road.
