Department of Agriculture, Barnala celebrates 'Farm Day' on direct sowing of paddy

Barnala: Under the leadership of Dr. Charanjit Singh Kainth, Chief Agriculture Officer, Barnala, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Barnala organized a “Field Day” on the direct sowing of paddy at the farm of farmer Arjinder Singh at village Pandori, Block Mehal Kalan. 

Addressing the farmers on the occasion, Kulwant Singh Pandori, MLA of constituency said that the continuous lowering of groundwater levels today is a matter of concern.  Therefore, the conservation of natural resources like water is the basic duty of every citizen of the society. He further said that the technique of direct sowing of paddy recommended by the Department of Agriculture and PAU could also save groundwater and reduce the cost of farming. 

Rajinder Singh and Navdeep Singh, who is currently sowing paddy directly, also shared their experiences with other farmers and said that this technique has been very successful. Dr. Charanjit Singh Kainth Chief Agriculture Officer said that the Department of Agriculture should not only plant trees but also take care of these trees so that dense shade trees can be created which can purify the environment and enable us to enjoy natural oxygen. School students Jaskaran Singh, Kamal Heer, Harbinder Singh, and Harbhajan Singh, who promoted the technique of direct sowing of paddy through their poetry, were also honored at the occasion. At this time different types of saplings were also distributed to the farmers. On this occasion, among others, Dr. Jasmeen Sidhu ADO, Dr Navdeep Singh Gill, Dr Vivek Kumar, Dr Parminder Singh Land Defense Officer, Yadwinder Singh AEO, Charan Ram EEO, Sanwinder Singh BTM, Jaswant Singh Chairman Market Committee Mehal Kalan, Kisan Pal Singh Panch, Natha Singh Bath, Sugar Singh, Inderjit Singh, other farmers and other employees of the department were also present.
