MUKTSAR:  Taking serious note of two complaints lodged by Schedule Caste residents of Muktsar, the Punjab State Schedule Caste Commission’s Senior Vice President Deepak Kumar and Member Raj Kumar Hans visited Muktsar to personally hear the complainants.

After hearing the first complainant--a woman from Nanak Colony Maur Road-- the Commission directed DSP (Sub division), Harvinder Cheema, to personally submit the report in the office of Commission in Chandigarh on September-16. The complainant submitted that the police failed to take action against the culprits who had beaten her and used unprintable words against her.

While disposing off the second complaint from Chak Sherewala village which was lodged by a mother of two children, stating that she along with her children were detained by a landlord in a house. The commission took a serious note of the absence of the complainant despite giving a prior intimation about their visit.

The commission directed the area SHO to make a phone call to enquire about the reason of absence of the complainant who vehemently knocked the doors of the Commission last week. When the SHO replied that the complainant refused to appear before the commission without giving a valid reason, the Member Commission feared that the complainant might be under some pressure to withdraw the complaint. Apart from deploying the police to look into the matter, Member Commission Raj Kumar Hans said, “We will personally monitor the issue and if need be will again visit to the residence of the complainant.”

Later talking to media persons, the Vice Chairman and Member said that they have disposed off 90 complaints lodged by the SC community and they personally visited the areas across Punjab even during the pandemic and have resolved most of the complaints upto the satisfaction of the complainants.
