“The protest would resume if the merger process was re-initiated,” protesters.

  • FARIDKOT: The 5 days long stage protest by the affected account holders in front of the cantonment branch of the Punjab National Bank has been lifted today after the assurance by the chief general manager circle Fazilka, who visited the spot.

The stakeholders who had the accounts in the PNB branch at Faridkot cantt had been fighting against the merger of the branch to the main branch of the PNB near Gandhi Model School Faridkot alleging that the main branch was running from a very small building and it was inconvenient for the parking and other facilities.

Banwari Lal Kakkad, chief manager of PNB circle Fazilka on Monday reached the spot accompanied by Satinder Bedi, coordinator of the main branch of PNB to assure the protesters that the decision to merge the branch has been deferred today.

They said that the matter would be now put up before the higher authorities of PNB at Delhi for final decision.

The protesters lifted the stage protest after the written assurance by the senior bank official but warned that if the given assurance was not materialised, they would again sit on protest and choke the working of the branch.

It is pertinent to mention that the account holders from the nearby six villages and many people from the locality had been protesting against the merger of the Cantt branch to the main one for 5 days.

The bank has about 1800 accounts of Ex-servicemen, about 6200 of the locals and 350 loan limits of the account holders according to the protesters.

The protesters said that due to the adjoining cantonment area, the bank is much safer.
