5 years old land record on Punjab govt portal leads to big mismatches, farmers and commission agents at receiving end

“The government has uploaded the land record of 2016 and now a lot of changes have taken place in it during the past five years,” Ashok Kumar Goyal, General Secretary of Ahartia Association Kotkapura.

“If only 25 quintal produce would be procured per acre, where would the rest go,” Sanjay Mittal, joint secretary of the association.

FARIDKOTY: As the central government has made it mandatory to update all the details of farmers including the land records ownership, the commission agents alleged that it has turned out to be a big problem for them now later on farmers would get harassed due to it.

“The government has uploaded the land record of the year 2016, 5 years old and now a lot of changes have taken place since then. If some farmer had been cultivating on 5 acres then, now he is cultivating 10. The death of the owners of the land also leads to the change of the title of the land as it is further distributed among the other shareholders. For this purpose, we needed the latest Jamabandhis, but this is opposed by the farmers,” said Ashok Kumar Goyal, general secretary of Ahartia Association Kotkapura.

“Due to a very big mismatch between the 5 years old and the latest record, it would then lead to the problems of the payments too, '' Goyal said.

Goyal said that on the one hand, the government has asked us not to take any  Jamabandhis, but on the other hand, it has asked us to upload the name of the owner, his father’s and grandfather’s name, his ownership and Aadhar card etc. But it is not possible without taking Jamabandhis, which the farmers oppose,” he said.

The commission agents said that there is a lot of variation between the uploaded record of 2016 and 2021.

They demanded from the government either to update the old revenue record with the latest one or these details should not be sought. The produce of the cultivator should be procured as agreed.

“If the name of the owner and his ownership is not correctly matched inland record, how can a farmer sell the produce? '' asks Sanjay Mittal, another office-bearer of the association.

The commission agents question the government move aimed to harass both them and farmers.

“The second problem is that as far as we have learned, only 25 quintal produce would be procured by the government agencies per acre. But even on an average, the paddy yield is about 30 quintals or more, where would that produce go? said Ashok Goyal.

Even some of the PR varieties like PR 121,122 have about 32 quintal yield per acre.

Some unrecommended varieties have even more than that.

“we don't know what will happen in the season as the early varieties are going to mature in two weeks. There are a lot of discrepancies, obscurities and obstacles in the newly devised system,” said Mohinder Bansal, cashier of Ahartia Association from Faridkot.

The farmers alleged that the union government aims to finish APMC(mandis) by playing these tricks to allow the corporates to exploit them, the farmers.

Gaurav, ADMO Faridkot remained evasive and could not be contacted for his comments despite repeated attempts on his cell phone.
