The main accused is still at large even after the rejection of his anticipatory bail and 50 days after the registration of the FIR.

Faridkot: The court of the addtional and district sessions judge Faridkot Rajeev Kalra has rejected the anticipatory bail application of Kiran Mangla, mother of the rape accused Sumeet Mangla on Thursday.

Sumeet is a resident of Kotkapura and accused of rape of a MR girl living in front of his house in June.

The anticipatory  bail application of the main accused Sumeet Mangla too has already been rejected by the court earlier.

It is pertinent to mention that city police Kotkpaura had booked Summet Mangla for raping a 23 years old mentally retarted girl on October 6. But the police allegedly did not arrest the accused Sumeet Mangla under some kind of pressure by higher ups and even a case against the supporters of the victim had also been registered under various sections of IPC including trespass and others on the complaint of the sister of the accused after the case was registered against Sumeet.

When the main accused was not arrested by the Faridkot police, the Kotkapura residents also protested in this regard  on October 26 seeking the arrest of the accused.

The Kotkapura police did not nominate  the mother and wife of the main accused Sumeet Mangla in the case for threatening or conspiring with the accused during the registration of the case as stated by the complainant.

They were later on nominated as co accused in the case by the police.

The alleged incident of the rape of the mentally retarted ( MR )girl occured in June this year, but as the accused and his family allegedly threated to remain her silance and out of the fear, the victim did not disclose the incident happened to her for a long time.

It was only in October that after seeing the change of the mood of the victim, her parents took her to a counsellor in Chandigarh and after her counselling, she disclosed to her parents what had happened to her.

On the complaint, the police had regsitered a case of rape against Sumeet Mangla though the complainant had also accused his mother and wife  as well  for conspiring the crime.

Sumeet Mangla evaded the arrest so far though his anticipatory bail has also been rejected by the court of law.

The accused is said to be 32 years old while the victim is 23 years old studying in Bachelors of Arts in second year. They live in front of each other’s house.

“We can not say that the victim can not speak or hear. But her growth of mind is very slow, her IO is not corresponding to her age. After raping her, the accused and his family threatened her that if she would speak up about this incident, she would be eliminated or police would arrest her. A sense of fear was instilled in her mind and she remained obsessed for months unless she was taken to a counsellor in Chandigarh. This delay provided an escape route to the accused for some time and we don't know why the administration spared the accused so long. Now the SSP and other officers are very hardworking and cooperative, we hope that justice would be delivered to us,” said Anil Goyal, an advocate fighting for the cause of justice.

“Nobody’s daughter is to be treated like that, this is our fight. We hope to get justice soon,” said Advocate Anil Goyal when contacted by Punjab Tribune
