NEW DELHI: The Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council on Friday has decided to defer decision on increased tax on textiles from earlier 5 per cent to the proposed 12 per cent in the meeting.
As per the reports, thedecision to defer the hike was taken during the 46th GST Council meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday.
However, the government had exempted cotton products from the purview. The GST levied on textile products including readymade garments, fabrics, synthetic..etc, was earlier hiked from 5 per cent to 12 per cent.
