Congress put Punjab on track of development after ten disastrous years of Akali Dal: Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary

Congress gave Punjab its first Dalit CM, while other parties merely promised Deputy CM’s and lower posts: Vikramjit Chaudhary

PHILLAUR: Continuing his campaign for the upcoming legislative assembly elections in the state, Indian National Congress candidate from Phillaur constituency Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary said Thursday that the sole mission of the Congress was the welfare of everyone, and the government had pursued policies to further that objective.

He addressed election meetings in Chachrari, Paddi Khalsa, Virk, Indna Klaskey and Kala villages of the constituency.

He said that in the last five years, the Congress government implemented many schemes and programmes to put the state back on track of development after ten disastrous years of Shiromani Akali Dal – Bharatiya Janata Party government.

“When we came to power in March 2017, Punjab lay in ruins after ten years of Akali Dal – BJP jungle raj. It was not a government of the people but the mafia. The focus was not on education and employment but on supplying drugs to the youth. Our first task was to fight the menace of drugs, and we made every effort to deliver on it,” he said.

Vikramjit Chaudhary further stated that while other political parties were busy making hollow promises of giving deputy chief minister’s and lower positions to the Dalit community, the Congress party gave Punjab the first-ever Dalit chief minister, adding that the oldest party of India always took everyone together and actually focused on the upliftment of marginalised sections of the society.

Speaking earlier, Zila Parishad Member Surjeet Singh Lallian, Goraya Municipal Council President Kamaldeep Singh Bittu and Rurka Kalan Block Congress President Rakesh Duggal stated that Vikramjit Chaudhary was continuing a rich legacy of Master Gurbanta Singh, who fought for the rights of Dalits.

Master Gurbanta Singh ji played a crucial role in getting Dalits in positions of power and ensured that the marginalised sections of the society could live with dignity, they said.

Jasvir Singh Gill, Gurpal Singh Johal, Inderjit Singh, Jasvir, Preetpal, Jaspal Kaler, Tarsem Kaur, Angi Chachrari, Makhan Ram, Piara Lal and Buta Singh were among those present on these occasions.
