What stopped AAP from speaking against the alleged sale of votes, distribution of liquor in Faridkot?

Faridkot: It could be the Channi factor as the alleged buying of votes divided a particular vote bank which could consolidate to "Our Channi".AAP could not afford to buy resentment of a large section of that vote bank.

What could be a strategy of the AAP about the alleged sale and buying of the votes by rivals, could be defined some ways.

As the votes were allegedly bought in Kotkapura and Faridkot, the general constituencies, according to the candidates and sources, but AAP remained mum in this regard during elections without any hue and cry.

The alleged purchase of the votes had started two to three days before the polling date, but little activity was seen by the AAP to stop it or making complaints in this regard.

The AAP had been, from day one, appealing to the electorate that if offered money for votes, they should take it from the other parties, but cast vote to AAP. This was one perception perpetuated by the party that the voters could get money from the other candidates and cast their votes for the AAP candidates.

It has happened in many cases.

“I took money from SAD for six votes,Rs 6000, but cast my votes to the AAP candidate,” claimed a Faridkot man speaking to the Punjab Tribune.

The next plank could be to see a division of the votes between the two parties and largely three or many if votes are bought.

"If a particular section of the vote bank tilted towards Channi factor, it could be a defeating factor for AAP in most cases.

When the congress had projected Charanjeet Singh Channi as the proposed CM face for next term, the congress had scheduled caste or backwards voters as targeted ones that all of the votes would get consolidated and be polled in favor of congress.

But on the ground, it did not happen. When a particular vote bank has been targeted by the traditional parties to lure them by money, a divide was created among it. Some of the votes went in for SAD,Congress and even a part of it, cast their votes in favour of AAP.

If the election were allegdly totally fair, a particular section  of voters could either cast their votes to congress due to Channi as a Dalit face or frustrated, as revolt, it could cast its votes to the AAP which was seen in 2014.

"But most importantly, if the AAP tries to stop the alleged corruption or selling the votes, the voters would outrightly go against it. So AAP chose a middle path remaining silent about it," said Sukhjinder Singh, a voter from Faridkot.

As in parliament elections, money matters little, a large section of the electorate cast its votes to AAP rejecting the traditional parties.

There must be some well thought out and understood strategy that AAP, except it's Faridkot candidate Gurdit Singh Sekhon did not speak up against the alleged purchase of votes and distribution of liquor.
