NEW DELHI: President Joe Biden on Monday said India and the US will continue to engage and consult with each other to deal with the "destabilizing" effects of Russia's war in Ukraine.
Biden said this during a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this meeting, PM Modi once again said that there should be direct talks between Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to stop the war in Ukraine.
Before starting the meeting, PM Modi said, "We hope that the ongoing talks between Russia and Ukraine will bring peace."
During this, PM Modi also mentioned about the phone conversations with the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia.
Biden talked about the strong defense cooperation between India and America. He said the two countries would continue to discuss ways to deal with the destabilizing effects of Russia's war in Ukraine.
PM Modi said, "Today our talks are taking place at a time when the situation in Ukraine is worrying. Till a few weeks ago, more than 20 thousand Indian students were stranded in Ukraine." The Prime Minister also mentioned about an Indian student who died in Ukraine after being attacked by Russia.
PM Modi said, "I am not only appealing to establish peace, but I suggest that President Putin should talk directly to the President of Ukraine. The issue of Ukraine has also been discussed in detail in our Parliament."
