KATHMANDU(Lumbini): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Nepal at the invitation of his Nepal counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba on a day-long visit to Lumbini on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

PM Narendra Modi said, the birthplace of Mahatma Buddha, that without Nepal, even our Ram is incomplete. He said that if Ram temple is being built in India today, then the people of Nepal will also be happy. The people of India have watched with faith for thousands of years.

Modi made the remarks while addressing the Buddha Purnima celebrations in Kathmandu during his day-long visit to Nepal’s Lumbini.

This country is going to preserve its culture. PM Modi said that we have a shared heritage, shared culture and shared love. This is our capital. The stronger it is, the more we can transmit Buddha's message to the world. The way the situation in the world is being created today, the closeness of India and Nepal will serve the interest of the entire humanity. In this, the faith of both our countries towards Lord Buddha unites in one thread, makes us a member of a family.

The Prime Minister said that Buddha is also enlightenment and there is research. They are thoughts as well as sanskars. Mahatma Buddha is also special because he did not only preach but also made humanity feel enlightened. Certainly he was not born as an ordinary child. He made us realize that sacrifice is more important than attainment. So he wandered in the forests, did penance and did research.

Delighted to visit the Lord Budha's birthplace, PM Modi said, "The energy of the place where Lord Buddha was born, gives a different feeling. I was happy to see that the Mahabodhi sapling I had gifted in 2014 for this place, is now growing into a tree."

Highlighting India and Nepal relations, PM Modi said, "The growing & strengthening friendship between India & Nepal will work for the benefit of entire humanity amid the kind of global situation that is emerging today. The devotion to Lord Buddha binds us together, makes us members of one family."

After that introspection, when he reached the top of knowledge, he never claimed the welfare of the people by any miracle. He told us the path which he himself had lived.

Prime Minister Modi also shared his special connection to Lord Buddha. Calling it a wonderful and pleasant coincidence, he said that the place he was born, Vadnagar in Gujarat, was a great centre of Buddhist learning centuries ago. "Even today, ancient remains are coming out there, whose conservation work is going on," he said.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi held bilateral talks with Deuba and discussed ways to strengthen ongoing cooperation and develop new areas in the multifaceted bilateral partnership. The two sides also signed six Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) on cooperation in cultural and educational sectors.
