NEW DELHI: Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment. The court has given decision in the case of disproportionate assets. A court in Delhi has also imposed a fine of 50 lakhs on the former Haryana CM. With this, four of his properties will be attached.
According to the decision of the Rouse Avenue Court, the properties of OP Chautala located at Hailey Road, Gurugram Jan Pratinidhi, Panchkula and Asola will be confiscated.
However, the court has also asked to pay Rs 5 lakh to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to Faisel, if he does not pay this fine, he will have to serve 6 months more.
In 2008, Om Prakash Chautala and 53 others were accused of scam in the appointment of 3,206 junior basic trained teachers in the state from 1999 to 2000. In this too, he was found guilty in the year 2013. Chautala was also convicted in the JBT scam in January 2013. Apart from the JBT scam, this is the second case of disproportionate assets in which OP Chautala has been found guilty.
In the disproportionate assets case, the CBI had sought maximum punishment for Om Prakash Chautala in the court. His argument was that if the former CM gets less punishment, then the wrong message will be sent. On the other hand, the defense had demanded reduction of the sentence of the Haryana leader due to health reasons.
