Vet Varsity's Centre for One Health organizes Industry, Faculty meet on World Zoonoses Day

Ludhiana: The Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has organized the Industry expert/Faculty meet on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day on 6th July 2022 under ICAR's NAHEP Institutional Development Plan.

Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Director Research, Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean Postgraduate studies, GADVASU presided the inaugural function and appreciated the efforts of the faculties of the centre to develop various Zoonoses awareness/educational tools. Dr. A.K. Arora, Controller of Examination, and Dr. Ramneek, Dean College of Dairy Science and Technology also graced the occasion.

World Zoonoses Day is celebrated annually on 6th July to create awareness on zoonotic diseases. On July 6, 1885, French biologist Louis Pasteur gave the first dose of the first vaccination against the zoonotic disease rabies. World Zoonoses Day holds significance in educating and raising awareness about zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans. Dr. Gill appreciated the theme of the sessions and congratulated the team of Centre for One Health for carrying out such industry-academia linking activities to bridge the gap between academic institutes and industries.

Dr. J.S. Bedi, Director Centre for One Health, GADVASU appraised the recent activities of the Centre to the guests and participants. The technical session was started with the lecture of Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chief Technical Officer, Eco Paryavaran Pvt. Ltd. on “Enhancements in elemental analysis by Liquid chromatography inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LC-ICPMS”). Dr. Kumar emphasised on the need of development of such novel analysis tools to robust the food safety scenario in India.

Dr. Vikram Saini, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, AIIMS, New Delhi, delivered his lecture on “Novel host-centric approaches against microbial and zoonotic infections”. He shared his hands-on experience during the COVID-19 pandemic in diagnostics and the development of sample carrying media and disinfection of PPE kits. The concluding lecture was delivered by Dr. Anil Jaiswal, Manager Agricultural Services, Nestle, Moga on the topic of “Fresh milk quality and quality test to ensure milk safety”. He shared the ongoing challenges for the Indian milk industries including antibiotic resistance and residues. Dr. Randhir Singh, Professor, Centre for One Health concluded the function and thanked the guests and participants to spare their valuable time for this unique initiative.
