NAKODAR: More than fifty sugar growers of Nakodar, Shahkot and Phillaur sub-divisions on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the Nakodar Cooperative Sugar Mill Limited in protest against t non-clearance of their dues of Rs13.2 crore. Dharana was led by Doaba Kisan Union.

Addressing a protest rally union leader Sukhwant Singh Raully said that the cane growers have visited the mill several times since November 2016 for getting the bills cleared but without success. Neither the mill director nor other officials were ready to address their problems, he alleged. A memorandum was handed over to managing director.

When contacted, the mill’s managing director S.K.Puri said that they had not been able to clear the bills due to a financial crunch. He said that the management has sought help from the government so that the dues of cane growers could be cleared.
