Special review meeting convened for Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Campaign

Bathinda: A special review meeting of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign was conducted at the DC meeting hall today. Addressing the participants of meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mr Diprava Lakra stated that it was mandatory to ensure registration for pregnant women in first 12 weeks of pregnancy at nearest health center, anganwari or ASHA worker.

         

He added that the entire pregnancy, till the delivering of baby should be closely monitored. In event of the baby dying before delivery or  after delivery, the concerned officers be informed so that a detailed inquiry can be conducted into the causes of termination of pregnancy or death of infant.  He added that the health department conducts free treatment of expecting mothers at the government institutes and the institutional delivery too is conducted free of cost. Besides this, children of any gender upto 1 year of age are given free treatment and vaccination at government hospitals and girl child upto age of 5 years too is given this facility.

         

Mr Lakra directed the village teams to motivate people for removing gender discrimination. He directed them to ensure that the gudda-guddi board, which carries child sex ratio figures of a village, should be duly filled at every village so that villagers too are kept well informed about the child sex ratio of their village.         

         

He added that the main motive of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign was to bridge the wide gap of gender discrimination and ensure that girls get rights equal to boys. He asked the teams to identify people at village level, who have outstanding achievements in their respective fields and to rope in such people as motivators.  Such people will prove instrumental in motivating people towards gender equality.

         

Prominent among others present during meeting included ADC (G) Dr Shena Aggarwal, SDM Mrs Sakshi Sahwney, Civil Surgeon Dr HN Singh, IAS under training Mr Aditya Dhachwal, PCS under training Mr Kuldeep Bawa, District Social Security Officer Mr Navene Garhwal, District Program Officer Mr Rakesh Walia, all BDPOs, CDPOs and other officers and employees were also present.
