National Girl Child Day- ADC exhorts parents to fulfill their duties towards daughters from birth to higher education

LUDHIANA: The Department of Women and Child development celebrated National Girl Child Day at Braille Bhawan, Jamalpur. 

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Surabhi Malik presided over the function as chief guest and honoured first-time pregnant women, mothers of newborn girl and beneficiaries of other welfare schemes. 

Addressing the gathering, Surabhi Malik said that the women have proved their mettle in every field and added that there is no such field today which has to remain unconquered by the women. 

She said that girls are blessed with unbounded energy and innovative ideas, which they can use for bringing the much-needed change in the society. 

ADC exhorted the parents and families to fulfill their duties towards girl child from birth to providing higher education so that they can feel proud over achievements of their daughters. 

She gave her example and stated what she is today just because of the contribution of her parents.

Rupinder Kaur, District Program Officer informed the gathering about the implementation of action plan under ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ program. She said that the department is actively running awareness drive in each block and village of the district. 

She claimed since the starting of the program, the sex-ratio in the district has improved considerably. 

She told that the department is always ready for the families which want to raise their daughter to grow into empowered women. She called upon the girls to dream big, stand up for achieving the goal and act as an agent of change by realizing their inbuilt power.  She asked them any family can contact her office or CDPO offices for assistance. 

On this occasion, the officials from District Child Protection, Health, Education, Labour departments and legal experts disclosed the gathering about various schemes are undertaken by their departments for the girls. 

Meanwhile, the Children of Government Institute for Blind Jamalpur and Anganwari workers also presented songs and skit respectively in the function.
