Chandigarh: Haryana Government has been making concerted efforts to put a check on the burning of crop residue and subsidy is being provided to farmers on the purchase of equipment for management of crop residue. The Rewari district has set a record by giving subsidy to all applicant farmers in both individual and custom hiring center categories.

This was informed by the Principal Secretary, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi while presiding over meeting with all Deputy Commissioners through video conferencing, here today.

Dr. Likhi directed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure physical verification and distribution of subsidy to farmers, who have submitted bills in both individual and custom hiring center categories, before September 20. He congratulated Rewari district for this achievement and directed other districts to accelerate the pace of their working.

He said that the Haryana State Pollution Control Board has provided a list to Deputy Commissioners of the villages where fire incidents took place in 2016. The Deputy Commissioners have been asked to invite sarpanches of these villages and encourage them to not allow anyone in their village to burn the crop residue.

It was informed in the meeting that 587 villages are sensitive where crop residue burning incidents take place. Dr. Likhi directed the Deputy Commissioners to launch a special campaign in such villages to make farmers aware about not burning crop residue. Apart from this, school students should also be associated with this campaign. He said that programmes should be organized at district and block levels and maximum participation of farmers should be ensured. The farmers should be informed about the benefits of equipment being used for management of crop residue and subsidy being provided by the government on such equipment so that maximum number of farmers would avail their benefits.
