Soni announces comprehensive action plan to plant seven lakh saplings for enhancing green cover in state

Move aimed at making Punjab a clean, green and pollution free state

 JALANDHAR: Environment and Education minister Punjab OP Soni today said that the state government has chalked out a comprehensive strategy to make the state clean, green and pollution free by planting around Seven lakh saplings in the coming days to commemorate 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.

 

Presiding over a meeting with the representatives of EcoSikh regarding the environmental issues facing Punjab and how to connect the 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji with environmental activism, the Minister assured them of fulsome support and cooperation for this noble cause. He said that the state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was committed for making state clean, green and pollution free. He said that under this ambitious program the Education and Environment department would plant around seven lakh saplings in vacant government places across the state. 

 

The Minister said that the state was facing several environmental challenges and it was heartening to see NRIs and organization like EcoSikh committed to save Punjab’s environment and ecology. He underlined the need for involving more and more people to come forward so that desired goals could be achieved. Soni said that major focus was to enhance the green cover in Punjab and make it a environmental sustainable state.

 

On the occasion EcoSikh Global President, Dr. Rajwant Singh thanked the Minister for sparing his valuable time and his commitment for the betterment of Punjab’s environment. He also thanked Punjab government for the initiative of iHaryali app through which a mass number of saplings were made available to people across the state. 

 

Supreet Kaur, President of EcoSikh Punjab also thanked the minister for encouraging EcoSikh to carry forward this vision and mission for Punjab’s environment. She presented the Punjab minister a poster of 550 Rukh Guru De Naam and a guide to empower and educate common people to engage in plantation drives.
