Sonipat (Haryana):  The O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) here has made it to the top 450 universities in Asia, as per the QS Asia University Rankings 2019.

The ranking puts the JGU in the top three per cent of more than 13,000 universities in Asia, the university said in a statement on Thursday.

"This is a proud moment for India and for JGU. It is time for India to join ranks with world class universities and improve the academic environment for our students," Founding Chancellor of JGU Naveen Jindal said in a statement.

National University of Singapore topped the QS Asia University Rankings 2019 released on Wednesday that did not see any institute from India making it to the top 30 in the list.

At number 33, the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) became the highest-ranking Indian institute in the list.

In QS Asia University Rankings 2019, around 500 institutions were ranked, out of which 92 were new entrants.

The JGU was established less than a decade ago with the objective of promoting excellence in higher education.

"To be recognised as the youngest Indian university in a prestigious international ranking is a testament to the hard work and contribution of the faculty member, students and staff of JGU," Jindal said in a statement.

"Breaking into the QS Asia University Rankings in barely nine years since our founding is an unprecedented achievement for an institution in its quest for eminence," said C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of JGU.

QS uses 11 indicators -- academic reputation, employer reputation, international faculty, faculty-student ratio, staff with PhDs, citations per paper, papers per faculty, international research network, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange students and outbound exchange students -- to compile the ranking.

It also uses a global survey of 83,877 academics and 42,862 recruiters to assess the reputation of universities.

Over 13,000 universities in nearly 46 countries (and regions) in Asia are taken into consideration in the Asia rankings.

The JGU was recently ranked as the youngest Indian University in the QS BRICS University Rankings 2019.
