1380 Dialysis sessions held at State’s biggest civil hospital in Jalandhar during seven months this year-DC

Jalandhar: With state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has announced free dialysis services to the poor and needy people in all government hospitals and medical colleges, around 1380 dialysis sessions have already been held in state’s biggest health center Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital in just seven months witnessing nearly 55-percent increase per month. 

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra had made an announcement in this regard during June 2017.

He said that the civil hospital has three dialysis machines in it and this current month, 106 dialyzes have already been carried out. The same figure was in between 70-80 before the announcement but following the facility made free of cost, the civil hospital saw a spurt in the patients.

He said that earlier health department was charging Rs 750 as a fee for the dialysis done at the civil hospital while in private hospitals; the cost of one-time dialysis is Rs 2500- Rs 3000 and above.

The deputy commissioner told that Punjab Government had been taking concerted steps to strengthen the healthcare facilities and infrastructure in government hospitals in Punjab.

He also said that all tests of Tuberculosis and Hepatitis-C besides medicines are being offered free of cost to the patients.

Senior Medical Officer Dr. Kashmiri Lal informed that Dialysis machine is mainly used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function due to renal failure.

He revealed that the civil hospital has different dialysis machine for hepatitis-C patients in it and the dialysis unit operates between 9 am to 6 pm.

Dr. Lal further stated that there is a dedicated a team of doctors and nursing staff round the clock in the unit and averagely 4-5 dialysis sessions were being recorded daily here.
