NAKODAR: Raj Kumar Jagga councillor from ward no 6was on Thursday unanimously elected president of Mehat Pur Nagar panchayat in a meeting conducted by Nakodar Tehsildar Inder Dev Singh and chaired by executive officer Desraj.

EO said that 11 councillors were present in today’s meeting and vice president Kranti Jeet was officiating as president after

President Ramesh Varma had lost the confidence on the floor of the house after majority of councillors voted against him on October 30,2017. 

 
In the 13-member house, 4 councillors had moved a no-confidence motion against Verma levelling serious charges of violations of Municipal Act to Deputy Commissioner. 

Councillors had demanded that president should immediately be removed from his post as he had lost the confidence in the House. Following this, the Deputy Commissioner had fixed October 30 for final hearing and had appointed sub-divisional magistrate Ms.Amrit Singh as observer. 

The day’s proceedings started at 4PM at NP hall where nine councillors decided the fate of president by raising the hands
Interestingly, President Ramesh Varma was not present in the meeting who was supported by Shiromani Akali Dal.
