DC pays surprise visit at strong room for inspecting security arrangements for EVMs

Asks staff to remain vigil for ensuring free, fair and smooth Lok Sabha Polls 

 

 JALANDHAR: The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today paid a surprise visit to strong room for inspecting the arrangements for the security of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) stored in it.

         

The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, spent more than half an hour at the place where the EVMs have been stored after their formatting. He said that these EVMs have been stored under tight security arrangement, so that they could be well utilized for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Sharma also had detailed interaction with the security personnel appointed for the security of these machines.

         

 

The Deputy Commissioner also enquired about the CCTV cameras installed at the strong room. He directed the security personnel to remain vigilant for protecting these EVMs efficaciously. Sharma said that any sort of laxity in this duty was totally undesirable and unwarranted.

         

The Deputy Commissioner said that he had already appointed senior officers of the district administration to visit the strong room on rotation for keeping a check on security arrangements. He said that primary motive of inspection was to ensure that polling was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner. Sharma said that the district administration has already requested the political parties to send their representatives to ensure full transparency in the entire work. Sharma further said that the political parties must take part in this activity because it was very essential for strengthening the ethos of democracy at the grass-root level.  

On the occasion District Guidance Counselor Surjit Lal, Tehsildar Elections Raj Kumar Tangri, Director RUDSET Jagdish Kumar and others were also present.
