BATHINDA: The campaign of planting 550 saplings in each village of the district on the occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th birth anniversary will be completed in Bathinda by September 30. Disclosing this here today, Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Praneet said that the task of identifying the land for planting 550 fructiferous and traditional variety trees in every village would be done under the supervision of Nodal Officers before 15th February by all means.

He said that help of Panchayat members, Gurudwara committees, Nambardars and elders will be sought to demarcate the land for plantation of the saplings in villages. Also the officers of rural development, agriculture, horticulture, soil conservation, revenue and other concerned departments too would chip in along with the volunteers and members of the youth clubs, schools, religious deras, gurdwara committees and NGOs to plant these saplings.

He said that district administration will also involve business organizations under the corporate-socio responsibility (CSR) to encourage people to plant as many saplings as they can in the rural and urban areas of the district.

Praneet said that the Divisional Forest Officer has also been instructed to ensure sufficient availability of saplings. He said that under this coveted campaign, 75 lakh saplings are being planted across the state. He pointed out that the officials of the forest department and departmental nurseries would prepare saplings under Ghar-Ghar Hariyali, MGNREGA and Green Punjab Mission schemes.

Praneet said that the DFOs are directed to upload the list of nurseries of their department on "i-Hariyali mobile application" so that availability of nurseries can be easily tracked.

To connect more masses with this campaign, it has also planned that the people may plant the saplings in the name of their ancestors. "In order to connect the campaign to the people, special literature will be prepared by the district administration. Similarly, the students of the schools/colleges, general public and youth will also be made part of this campaign", he said.

He informed that the village which would be declared first by getting 10 marks will be given appreciation certificates by the district administration.

A resolution would be passed by the village panchayats by February 15 after the demarcation of the land in the villages in this regard.
