‘Dhian Di Lohri’ organized for generating awareness amongst people for saving girl child

JALANDHAR: MLA from Jalandhar Cantt Pargat Singh today gave a clarion call to the people for saving girl child for making them equal partners in the socio-economic growth of the country.  

Presiding over a district level ‘Dhian Di Lohri’ function organized here at Government Senior Secondary School Jamsher, the MLA from Jalandhar Cantt Pargat Singh, accompanied by District Education Officer Rampal Saini and Deputy District Education Officer Anil Awasthi, said that it was the need of the hour educate and empower the girls for making India a front ranking country in the world. He said that ‘Dhian Di Lohri’ was a great endeavor, which could play an important role transforming the destiny of girl child in the society. Pargat Singh also underlined the need for such sustainable efforts throughout the year for disseminating its message in a far more effective manner.

The MLA further said that such functions were in line with the path shown by the great Sikh Gurus, who taught us to give respect to lady, which gives birth to the Kings and Royals. He said that today girls were leading in every sphere whether it was academics, sports or other. Pargat Singh also congratulated the district administration for taking this noble initiative to spread the message against female foeticide.

Similarly, another event was organized at Virsa Vihar by Ajit Singh foundation in association with District Red Cross Society to celebrate Lohri Festival with Specially Able girl children. Sub Divisional Magistrate Sanjiv Sharma, while presiding over the function, said that it was all the more important to organize such events for creating a mass awakening amongst the masses against the menace of female foeticide thereby empowering the women.

On the occasion Secretary Virsa Vihar Captain Inderjit Singh Dhami, Ramanpreet Kaur and others were also present.
