inaugurated Six-Day 18th Sub Junior National Wushu Championship at LPU

Jalandhar: Six-Day 18th Sub Junior National ‘Wushu’ Championship inaugurated, today, at Lovely Professional University (LPU) Campus, where 3000+ sportsmen-women from across all states of India are participating. The championship is being organized by the Punjab Wushu Association under the aegis of Wushu Association of India.

Member of Parliament from Jalandhar Santokh Singh Chaudhary declared open the Wushu competitions in weight categories of 20 Kg, 24 Kg, 28 Kg, 32 Kg, 36 Kg, 40 Kg, 44Kg, 48Kg, and 52Kg for both boys and girls.  MP Chaudhary congratulated all the participants and inspired them to reveal their best of Wushu skills for sure winnings. LPU Executive Dean Dr Sanjay Modi and Director Sports Dr V Kaul were accompanying him. On an inaugural day, massive march past and exhibitory matches for Sanshou and Taolu categories of Wushu were showcased.

President Wushu Association of India (WAI) Bhupinder Singh Bajwa informed all that WAI is a member of International Wushu Federation and is recognized by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, HRD Ministry, Government of India. It is also affiliated with the Indian Olympic Association and further recognized by the International Olympic Council.

President Wushu Association of Punjab, Olympian & Arjuna Awardee, Surinder Singh Sodhi (IPS Retd) informed that traditional Chinese Martial Art, Wushu provides the knowledge of self-defence. It is also a regular event in ‘School National Games’ and regular courses have been offered by Sports Authority of India in Wushu at NS NIS Patiala.

One of the participants from Manipur Sandhya Rani shared that she likes Wushu as its regular practice provides beneficial effects on the body to be always fit. She further shared that it is also a performing art and many WUSHU movements are incorporated into modern dance, dramas, ballet and gymnastics.
