Challenges him to initiate inquiry, even as Budh Singh joins YAD programme and promises to fight on till loans of farmers, khet mazdoor and dalits are not waived

GORAYA: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia today challenged Cooperation minister Sukhjinder Randhawa to prove his allegation that youth volunteers had not helped distressed farmer Budh Singh to pay back his loan or resign from his post.

Mr Majithia, who arrived here at the head of a huge cavalcade of motorcycles driven by YAD volunteers, said he had taken to the road to expose the Congress government after waiting for it for two years to honour the complete loan waiver pledge given to farmers. “In the meantime hundreds of farmers have committed suicide, thousands have become defaulters, farm loans have increased and now farmers are even facing ‘kurki’ proceedings.

Speaking about the statement made by Cooperation minister Sukhjinder Randhawa after youth volunteers presented Rs 3.86 lakh to him, the SAD president said it was shameful that Randhawa was talking about conducting an inquiry to find out why relief was given to Budh Singh when he had done nothing to help him. “I challenge him to get the inquiry done. He should inquire into all the funds received across the State from youth volunteers in small denominations of tens and hundreds of rupees”. Mr Majithia urged youth to contribute in their own way as per their capacity towards the corpus being created by the SAD to help distressed farmers.

The SAD general secretary (Incharge Youth) was accompanied by farmer Budh Singh who thanked YAD volunteers for helping him in an hour of crisis and said now he would fight alongside them to ensure justice to lakhs of farmers who had been backstabbed by the Congress government. Budh Singh said he would continue this fight till the loan of farmers, khet mazdoor and dalits was not waived off.

Meanwhile Mr Majithia also took on Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the phony crop loan waiver scheme initiated by him. He said Rahul was also playing politics on this issue. “The Congress president has time to visit the families of six farmers who died in Madhya Pradesh two times in the space of one year but does not have time to visit even a single one of the 700 farm suicide victims in Punjab”. He also condemned Rahul Gandhi for trying to implement a fake loan waiver scheme initiated by him in Punjab in other States. “Now Rahul wants to cheat farmers of the country after betraying farmers of Punjab”, he added.

Mr Majithia also castigated chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh for making false and misleading statements on the issue of providing jobs to youth. He said recently the chief minister was quoted in a newspaper advertisement saying 1.13 lakh jobs had been provided to youth by his government. “Earlier he was quoted as saying that 3.25 lakhs jobs had been provided which amounted to 650 jobs per day”. He said the truth was that no government job had been provided to youth in the last nearly two years. “The government is reducing salaries of those who have been provided jobs by the SAD-BJP government. It has also failed to provide the promised Rs 2,500 per month unemployment allowance and smart phones”.

Others present on the occasion included legislators Baldev Khara and Pawan Tinu, YAD Secretary General Sarabjot Singh Sahbi, YAD zone president Sukhdeep Sukar, YAD district president Tejinder Nijher and SOI president Parminder Brar.
