Mrsptu food science research scholar shine in multi track national conference on new horizons in food processing technology and nutrition

BATHINDA: Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda’s Ph.D Research Scholar, Puneet Kang of Department of Food Science & Technology has brought laurels to the University by winning Second prize in Poster presentation at Multi Track National Conference on 

“New Horizons in Food Processing Technology and Nutrition” held at National Institute of Technical Teaches  Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh.

      

The Conference was sponsored by Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of Government of India. Around 500 delegates across the country participated in the conference.  

      

Puneet Kang presented her work on the topic “Chia Seeds: Antioxidant Properties and Health Benefits”. Chia seeds are tiny black seeds from the plant Salvia hispanica, which is related to the mint. She is pursuing her Ph.D. on various properties of Chia seeds under the guidance of Dr. Kawaljit Singh Sandhu, Head of the Department, Food Science and Technology, MRSPTU, Bathinda.

       

Dr. B. S. Khatkar, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (AFSTI) President Designate was judge of the Poster Event.

        

Dr. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Director Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO), Dr. Shalinder Jain, Director,   Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) and  Dr. Tanmay Basak, Professor. IIT Madras-Chennai honoured Puneet Kang with a Memento and certificate for the achievement.

        

Department of Food Science and Technology in a very short span have managed to mark its presence at national level by providing advanced research in the field of Food Sciences.

   

HOD Dr. Kawaljit Sandhu congratulated the winner for her spectacular achievement. He further added that determination and hard work of student always pays in the area of science.

   

While congratulating the winner for bringing laurels to the department, which achieved national recognition in short span of time, MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar and Registrar, Dr. Jasbir Singh Hundal wished her best for future endeavors.
