AMRITSAR/JALANDHAR: The Department of History, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar is going to organize two day ICSSR sponsored a national seminar on March 11, the theme Historical Writings on the Jallianwala Bagh(1919).  Hundred years ago, 379 innocent people were killed and thousands were wounded in firing at Jallianwala Bagh by Gen.

The Department is going to hold the Seminar to commemorate the memory of the killed as well as those who had to suffer the wrath of Gen. Dyer and Lt. Governor, Michael O’Dwyer during the Martial Law days. The Seminar is going to be addressed by a galaxy of scholars, specialists in the subject. Prof. K.L. Tuteja, former Professor, Kurukshetra university shall deliver the keynote address on the topic “Revisiting the Jallianwala Bagh”.

Prof. Kamlesh Mohan, Prof. Emeritus, Punjab University shall deliver a special lecture on the topic “Remembering Jallianwala Bagh Tragedy: Historiography, Literature and Memory”.  Prof. Bhagwan Josh, Jawaharlal Nehru University shall deliver Valedictory address on the topic “Jallianwala Bagh and the Paradoxes of Punjab politics”.
