Haemoptysis Leads to Diagnosis of Foreign Body

JALANDHAR: Dr. H.J. Singh an eminent Chest Physician Broncoscopist at Ranjit Hospital Jalandhar and Chairman of Indian Chest Society, Punjab Chapter, while addressing a press conference said that Purshotam Lal, aged 45 Years of vill. Chak Hakim, Phagwara distt.

Kapurthala who is working as an electrician in Arya Model School Phagwara, admitted to Ranjit Hospital on 6th of March 2019 with the diagnose of Haemoptysis. Patient has massive Haemoptysis on 25th of February 2019 and again passed a large amount of clotted blood on 5th March 2019. Patient informed that in 2012 i.e. 7 years back he was working in the school with nails in his mouth and suddenly he fell unconscious which lead to fall from the stairs. Patient was taken to a nearby hospital where all sort of CT scans and MRIs were done. Patient remained unconscious for about one and half hours and ultimately was discharged.

 

At Ranjit Hospital X-Ray chest was done which reveals a sharp nail deep in the right lung and we decided to carry out Fiberoptic Bronchoscopic examination. The nail was located deep in the right lower part of Lung deeply impacted with granulation tissue around. Although there was lot of bleeding but by using various latest techniques ultimately the nail was removed after the struggle of 45 minutes.

   

Doctor H.J. Singh emphasized that more than seven years were wasted to reach the diagnosis. He further emphasized that patient history is essential in diagnosis of a patient. A major surgical procedure was avoided with the help of Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy.

  

Dr. H.J. Singh also thanked the ESI Hospital Phagwara for referring this very important case to Ranjit Hospital and giving the opportunity to save a precious life.
