Workshop on "Addiction & Nurse: Prediction, Protection & Prevention at KCN

AMRITSAR: A two- day national workshop was organized at Khalsa College of Nursing (KCN), Amritsar under the aegis of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi on " Addiction & a Nurse: Prediction, Protection & Prevention" with a view to empower the nurses with an insight into knowledge and skills that can be implemented in all to encounter people who are dependent on drugs. 

 

The workshop was an initiative for health professionals especially nurses to analyze, develop and demonstrate skills in assessing patients  with intoxication and withdrawal symptoms and in carrying out various therapies including group therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, activity therapy as well as incorporating nursing activities while administering psycho-pharmacological agents to enhance fast and favorable recovery. More than 200 delegates from all over India participated in this educational initiative.

 

Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President Satyajit Singh Majithia who was the chief guest at the event said the topic was most relevant in the present scenario when the state is in the grip of drugs addiction. He called for concerted efforts at society and government level to check the menace. KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina sad the role of the nurse is highly significance in recovery of the patients suffering from the addiction. 

 

Dr. Sandhya Gupta from AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr. B.L. Goyal, Ex-Director Institute of Mental Health Amritsar, Dr. Neerja Sood, Professor IGNOU, New Delhi and other dignitaries spoke on the occasion and shared their keen insights on initiative to increase support for prevention of drug use that is based on science. 

 

Principal, Dr.Kamaljit Kaur, while welcoming the guests expressed her views on historical background  of traditional intoxicants and intoxicants of the present times and its impact in the society. Dr. Sandhya Gupta, shared her views on Role of Values, Attitudes and Principles in addiction care & recovery. She encouraged the delegates to inculcate their theoretical knowledge to practice.

 

Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur Gill, Patron TNAI Punjab, Dr. Jasbir Kaur Principal MM College of Nursing Mullana , Dr. Triza Jiwan, Principal College of Nursing, DMCH, Dr. PD Garg, HOD Psychiatry Department GMCH, Dr. BL Goyal and Dr. Neerja Sood chaired various sessions both days of workshop. Sukhpal Singh, District Master Trainer (Amritsar District), Buddy Programme created awareness regarding procedure and importance of buddy project which was initiated by Punjab Govt. in 2018 to identify risk factors in order  to prevent the youngsters from falling into the trap of addiction.
