JALANDHAR: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar's PG Department of Mathematics organized Mathematical Rangoli Competition on the theme "Application of Irrational Number Pi in real life situations" to celebrate National Pi Day.

A total of 100 students of undergraduate and post graduate classes of mathematics participated in this competition. The students designed beautiful rangoli with mathematical concepts like the area of semi-circle, cylinder and cone using pi, the discovery of pi, application of pi in DNA, space and in Computer Science. It is important to mention that pi is the symbol used in Mathematics to represent a mathematical constant- the ratio of the circumference to its diameter, the value of which is approximately 3.14159 and this number resembles with the date 3/14 in month/day format.
