Jalandhar (Rural) Police arrest three narcotic smugglers during strong Nakabandi, Seize 2 kg opium

JALANDHAR- As the security has been beefed up in the district in view of general elections 2019, the rural police on Friday arrested three persons and seized 2-kg opium from their possession in separate cases. 

The accused have been identified as Mukesh Kumar of Kalgi in Jharkhand, Guljit Singh of Mohalla Kamalpur in Hoshiarpur district and Manoj Kumar of Kohra in Katihar Bihar. 

Addressing a press conference, Superintendent Of Police (SP Investigation) Mr Rajveer Singh said that Sub-Inspector Mr Manjit Singh of Maqsudan Police Station was conducting a nakabandi near Wariana Bus Stand around 7.50 am on March 14, when a migrant labourer on cycle move back after spotting the cops in Naka on the road and the cops chased and apprehended him following which he revealed his identity as Mukesh Kumar of Kalgi in Jharkhand. 

On being frisked, the cops seized one-kg opium from a plastic bag being hidden in a plastic bag carried out by him. 

Further, SP Investigation revealed that Sub-Inspector Mr Raghunath Singh of Maqsudan police along with party was laid a checking near Bidhipur Railway Crossing on March 13and a person walking towards the crossing, tried to escape around 3 pm after the spotting the cops following which the cops apprehended him who revealed his identity as Guljit Singh and cops seized 500-gm opium. 

Similarly, the above-mentioned team was carrying out checking in Gadaipur village on Friday morning. "Around 8.30 am, when cops reached Government Senior Secondary School in Randhawa Masanda, a person tried to flee away from the road after spotting the police party. Later, the man was nabbed who revealed his identity as Manoj Kumar of Kohra and on being frisked, the police seized 500 gm opium and he was taken into the custody", SP Investigation stated. 

Mr Singh said that three separate cases under section 18 of the NDPS Act have been registered against them in Maqsudan Police Station.
