Underscores need for active participation of youth in democratic process

JALANDHAR: As a part of the ongoing Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh today launched the posters to make students aware of their voting rights.

Unveiling the posters designed by the St. Soldier Group here at his college, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that it was all the more important to keep the youth abreast about the entire democratic process. He said that under the SVEEP program maximum efforts were being made to apprise the youth how to get enrolled as voter and then exercise their franchise to strengthen democracy at grass-root level. Jasbir Singh said that democracy could be successful only if only the stakeholders especially the young voters participate in the poll process with full zeal and enthusiasm.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that under the SVEEP program apart from holding college level camps such initiatives by educational institutes could play a pivotal role in making the students aware of their democratic rights. He said that apart from strengthening democratic process this would ensure proactive participation of the youth. Jasbir Singh also lauded St. Soldier group in taking this unique initiative to awaken the students.

On the occasion Managing Director of the institute Manhar Arora said that the institute had designed these posters with the motive to give career guidance to students on one hand and strengthen democratic process on the other.

Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included District Guidance Counselor Surjeet Lal.
