CHANDIGARH: With an intent to perk up the social development of Punjab, Students from UC Leuven-Limburg (UCLL) University in Belgium recently visited Chandigarh to develop business ideas for poor as well as rich population of Punjab. The students were on an international project week to Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran where they presented their entrepreneurial ideas on portable water filter pitcher, car assistant application, Travel luggage compiler and dog caring facility. Their visit was a part of the collaboration of CGC Landran with UC Leuven-Limburg (UCLL) University in Belgium which offers an annual opportunity for the students to exchange their culture and visit other countries.

“Pure drinking water is a basic amenity and has a direct impact on the social and economic development of a nation. We have come up with an idea of a portable filter cum pitcher with a capacity of 2.5 litres which could be an efficient substitute for plastic” said Ann Sophu, 20, marketing student from Belgium. Apart from this a dog caring facility has also been developed by the combined efforts of students from Belgium and CGC Landran keeping in mind the population of 60,000 stray dogs in Punjab. The facility will provide vaccination, selling, washing, feeding and water to these dogs.

“The teaching methods are much active here in India than in Belgium. In our college we are passive listeners but here the interaction between students and teachers is robust.” said Jacques, 21, MBA student who has come to CGC Landran from Belgium for the finance week.

The week-long visit concluded with an international apero presentation and Bhangra lessons for the Belgium students which were exercises for fostering cultural exchange. The students have intended to visit ladakh and analyse the social situation there as well.
