People must vote for those who follow Dr Ambedkar vision :

Congress neglect of Ambedkar anniversary a criminal act;  Sukhbir

JALANDHAR: - Paying  glowing tributes to the egalitarian vision  of Baba Sahib Bhim Rao  Ambedkar,  the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal  today described the Iconic leader  as " the greatest democratic revolutionary the country had produced in modern times"'

Badal asaid that people must vote only for those who genuinely implement the programmes and policies inspired by the reformer's vision.

Addressing a special function organised on the occasion of the 128th birth anniversary of the Father of the Constitution, Badal said that Dr Ambedkar was not just a dalit leader but an icon of social justice for the entire humanity. "He dreamt of an India where equality, social justice and  human dignity and respect  were ensured for every citizen irrespective of caste, creed, class and status.

Badal recalled that the congress party always opposed Dr Ambedkar at every step putting up candidates against him to block his entry into the Parliament. They never gave the honour due to a leader of the extraordinary stature of Dr Ambedkar. In fact it always went out to scuttle his progress and sabotage the implementation of his progressive and humane vision , said Badal

The SAD president said that his party had always drafted and implemented pro-poor policies and had gone out of its way to ensure the uplift of the underprivileged and the exploited sections of society "

He said that SAD BJP govt headed by Parkash Singh Badal was the first in the country to start Shagun Scheme for the Dalits. "Similarly we started the atta daal and pension scheme in addition to fre 200 units of power for the poor and backward sections. During our time, the SC scholarships were paid. We introduced free treatment up to Rs 50000 every year apart from free accidental death insurance if Rs five Lakhs for thepoor.in addition We started free quality education in schools  for the poor meritorious ,, free uniforms, scholarships for the dalit students among many other pioneering schemes for the poor and the exploited classes. The. SAD BJP govt was the only govt in the country to set up Dharmsalas for the underprivileged classes throughout the state.

Badal said that Dr Ambedkar played a “ pivotal “ role iin ensuring that Dalit population in the country got the right to vote. Sadly, the Congress  started by opposing him on this till public opinion forced a change of heart in that party.

Parkash Singh Badal had memorials built to preserve the heritage and legacy of Bhagwan Balmaki at Ram Teerath and of  Guru Ravi Dass ji at Khuralgarh a in Hoshiarpur district with a combined outlay over Rs 650 crores. unfortunately not a single penny has been spent by the present congress government to preserve these monuments and had actually neglected them. Similarly , the Amarinder Singh govt has shut down Meritorious schools, put riders on free power for the poor and in a severe winter forgot to distribute winter uniforms.

The Akali chief quoted the shocking incident in Punjab in 1952, when the then Congress stalwarts like Gurbanta Singh ,the late father of the Congress  leader  Santokh Singh greeted Baba Sahib in Jalandhar with black flags. The forward looking, secular and egalitarian people of Punjab will teach a lesson to the party which had tried to humiliate Baba Sahib, said Badal , adding that the even today , the Congress showed utter disrespect to the great soul by deliberately ignoring his birth anniversary.
