Administration to organize rehearsals for polling and counting staff on April 23 and 24 respectively

DC calls upon officers to perform their election duty zealously  

 

 JALANDHAR: Gearing up for holding free, fair and transparent Lok Sabha polls, the district administration would organize rehearsals for the polling and counting staff on April 23 and 24 respectively to acquaint them about their roles and duties during the polling process.
  

Divulging the details the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma, while presiding over a training cum sensitization workshop for of the officers here at the District Administrative Complex today, said that the rehearsals for the polling staff would be organized by the concerned Assistant Election Returning Officers (AERO) at the places earmarked by them. He said that on April 23 the training for polling staff for Phillaur assembly segment would be held at Government Senior Secondary School Phillaur, for Nakodar assembly segment at Guru Nanak National College (Boys), for Shahkot assembly segment at Public Senior Secondary School, for Kartarpur assembly segment here Khalsa College for women on Cantt Road, for Jalandhar West at HMV College, for Jalandhar Central and North assembly segments at DAVIET, for Jalandhar Cantt assembly segment at APJ College of Fine Arts and for Adampur assembly constituency at KMV Sanskriti School. Sharma said that a total of 18,000 employees would be deputed on poll duty including for 2329 polling parties at 1863 booths of the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said that a total strength of 9316 employees would be deputed as Presiding Officers (PRO), APRO and Polling Officers (PO) during the polls. Sharma said that staff would also be deputed fro counting in 122 tables after the polls adding that an approximate of 1000 Micro Observers would be deployed on the polling day across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner warned the officials that stern action would be taken against the staff who would not report for the poll duty. He said that any sort of negligence on part of poll staff to join duty would be dealt with a heavy hand and appropriate action would be taken against the employees indulging in such malpractices. Sharma said that any sort of callousness in deliverance of election duty was both unwarranted and undesirable.

On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Paramveer Singh, Amit Kumar Panchal, Sanjiv Sharma, Rajesh Sharma and Charumita, Secretary Regional Transport Authority Dr. Nayan Jassal, District Information Officer Amolak Singh Kalsi, Tehsildar Elections Manjeet Singh and others were also present.
