Paid holiday declared on may 19 for lok-sabha polls

JALANDHAR:-  To enable the employees working in the shops, business and industrial houses and other commercial establishments of Jalandhar to exercise their franchise in the ensuing general elections,  a paid holiday has been declared on the day of voting (May 19).

District Election Officer-Cum-Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said as per the directions of Election Commission Of India (ECI), a holiday has been declared on the day of voting (May 19) for under section 135-B of Representation of the People Act 1951.

He said that said that no deduction or abatement of the wages of any such person shall be made on account of a holiday having been granted.

The daily wager/casual workers are also entitled for a holiday and wages on poll day as provided to them.
