Washington D.C [U.S.A], May 7 (ANI): American tennis player Serena Williams amped up her fashion game and added her own sporty twist to the 2019 Met Gala.

No matter how flawless they seem, even stars are not immune to pain and that's what makes them relatable. While most of the celebrities kept their looks dramatic and extravagant, Serena ditched heels for a comfortable pair of sneakers for the mega event.

Sneakers are often the choice of her footwear at big events, including Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding as well as her own, reported E! News.

The tennis player arrived at the event in New York alongside her husband Alexis Ohanian, and they were both dressed to impress.

Serena stunned in the 80th Anniversary Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition, wearing a custom neon yellow strong-shouldered Versace gown with pink feathery and leaf applique throughout with a cascading train flowing behind her.

She completed her look with matching yellow sneakers from Virgil Abloh, a diamond watch, emerald green rings and drop earrings by de Grisogono, reported People.

Ohanain, on the other hand, looked absolutely handsome in a white tux with black lining coupled with black pants.

Williams dropped subtle clues over the weekend about her big night look's colour scheme. She and Ohanian attended a pre-Met Gala dinner on Sunday night donning a neon yellow skirt-top ser paired with a denim blazer.

Williams prepared for the event with some workout sessions as well as spending quality time with her daughter Alexis Olympia.

The 37-year-old star played a major role at the gala this year as one of the co-hosts of the event alongside Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Anna Wintour, and Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele.

In 2017, Serena showed off her baby bump and made her first red carpet appearance since she announced pregnancy. 2017 also marked the first time she and Ohanian made their red carpet debut as a couple.

The fashion jamboree was held inside New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. The show included 175 pieces from men's and women's wear. (ANI)
