DC asks AROs to ensure basic facilities for poll staff during duty at dispatch/receiving centers, polling stations and counting centers

Appoints DRO as district nodal officer for poll personnel welfare

 

 JALANDHAR: Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to ensure basic facilities for the poll staff during duty at Dispatch/Receiving Centers, polling stations and counting centers.

Presiding over a meeting with the AROs here at District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that for ensuring smooth conduct of Elections, a large number of employees were put to election duty in various capacities. He said that in order to get the maximum outputs from this election staff, it was essential that the basic facilities like transportation, shade, food, drinking water, refreshment, medical facilities and toilet facilities were provided to them at Dispatch/Receiving Centers, polling stations and counting centers. Sharma said that AROs must ensure that all facilities to Polling staff were provided as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India at all Dispatch/Receiving Centers, polling stations and counting centers.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that special care should be taken to arrange transportation facilities in coordination with transport department to all Polling staff reaching lately at Receiving Centers. Likewise, he said that District Revenue Officer Ms. Pinki Devi has been appointed as District Nodal Officer for Poll Personnel Welfare. Sharma said that the District Nodal Officer would coordinate the poll staff welfare issues, ensure facilities like drinking water, toilets, health care, help desk at training center/dispatch center and check arrangements for accommodation, food, drinking water facilities and toilet facilities for polling personnel.

Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner said that the nodal officer would also ensure food arrangements for poll staff, ensure poll staff to be relieved early if they submitted election material after close of poll, ensure timely distribution of the honorarium and claims of ex-gratia/compensation if any, issue Photo ID Card to all polling and counting staff, ensure special care while classifying in case of women,  physically handicapped persons and persons having mental disability besides ensuring transport facilities for polling staff at dispatch/receipt center in coordination with Transport Nodal Officer-cum-Secretary, RTA Jalandhar.

Pertinently, more than 18,000 employees from centre and state governments, banks and public sector undertaking have been assigned several duties during the polls. As many as 2329 polling parties have been constituted for ensuring elections at 1863 booths of the district. A total strength of 9316 employees would be deputed as Presiding Officers (PRO), APRO and Polling Officers (PO) during the polls. Besides this staff would also be deputed for counting in 122 tables after the polls and an approximate of 1000 Micro Observers would be deployed on the polling day across the district.
