First voters from first time voter, PWD and senior citizen category to be awarded certificate by district administration

JALANDHAR: In order to encourage the first time young voters, Persons with Disability (PWD) and senior citizen voters to cast their votes, the district administration would felicitate the voters from each of these categories who cast their vote first at every polling booth on polling day.

Divulging the details after releasing the specimen of the certificates to be given the voters, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the move was aimed at encouraging the voters from these categories to cast their votes at the polling booths. He said that these certificates would be given to the poll parties tomorrow (Saturday, May 18) so as to ensure that they reach every polling booth. Sharma said that on the polling day these certificates would be given by the Presiding officer to the first time young voters, Persons with Disability (PWD) and senior citizen voters, who cast their first at the polling booths.

The Deputy Commissioner said that already a major push has been given by the district administration to encourage participation of more and more number of voters in the electoral process. He said that a large number of activities were organized under the SVEEP to motivate more and more number of voters. Sharma expressed hope that these endeavors of the district administration would help in enhancing voter participation in the electoral process.

Pertinently, there were more than 16.17 lakh voters in the district who would exercise their franchise at the 1863 booths across the district. There were around 11,000 PWD voters in the district and the administration was laying due focus on ensuring that they cast their votes on May 19.
