The Shahkot police has booked a migrant travel agent, on charges of allegedly duping a Nurmahal village resident of Rs 14 lakh on the pretext of sending his daughter abroad.
Investigating Officer (IO) Balveer Singh said that the accused has been identified as Deep Indar Singh alias Deepu alias Summit Rathi alias Summit Rattu son of Shiv Pal Singh a resident of Kan Pur district in Uttar Pradesh.
Gurdial Singh a resident of Mitharra village under Nurmahal police station, complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police that he had paid Rs 14 lakhs to the accused for facilitating his daughter’s migration to England. However, the accused prepared fake documents and cheated him of Rs 14 Lakhs and did not return the money.
IO said a case under sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating) of the IPC has been registered against the accused after an inquiry, and further investigation are in progress.
