 Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Varjeet Walia today held a meeting with representatives of various political parties and apprised them of the instructions and schedule issued by the Election Commission of India regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being undertaken in Punjab. During the meeting held at the District Administrative Complex here, the Deputy Commissioner informed that as per the programme issued by the Election Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits and get forms filled from June 25 to July 24, 2026. He said that the draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, 2026, while claims and objections will be received from July 31 to August 30, 2026. He further stated that claims and objections will be disposed of by September 28, 2026, and the final publication of the electoral roll will take place on October 1, 2026. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amaninder Kaur and Election Tehsildar Sukhdev Singh were also present on the occasion. Mr. Walia said that to ensure smooth conduct of the SIR, the required election staff including 1926 BLOs, 189 supervisors, 9 Electoral Registration Officers and 5 Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers have been deployed in the district. He said that the entire process will be completed in a fully transparent, impartial manner and strictly as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. He informed that the training of BLOs and other preparations will be completed between June 15 and June 24, 2026, while rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 24, 2026. He said that the Election Commission of India has fixed a maximum limit of 1200 voters per polling station and during the rationalisation process it will be ensured that no polling station has more than 1200 voters. He added that if any political party has suggestions in this regard, they may contact the District Election Officer or the concerned Electoral Registration Officer. He further said that it would also be ensured that no voter must travel more than 2 kilometres to reach the polling station. He said that the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to include every eligible citizen of the district in the electoral roll and to remove the names of ineligible persons from the voter list. He clarified that under the SIR; it will be mandatory for all voters to fill the form provided by the BLO. The District Election Officer appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the administration for the smooth conduct of the SIR. He asked political parties to complete the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at the earliest. He said that the presence of BLAs would make the SIR process more credible and transparent. He also informed that as per the directions of the Election Commission, training of BLAs by the Electoral Registration Officers will also be conducted from June 4 to June 14, 2026.
